Getting Started On the Internet
Part 1 - Connecting to the
Internet
| Before you can access the
Web you need to be connected to the Internet. Connection to the
Internet is made using a modem, cable modem, or DSL modem.
Your modem is usually inside your computer and you attach your phone line
to it. Cable modem and DSL modems are usually provided by your
Internet Service Provider. DSL is a special phone line and cable
modem is connected through your cable TV carrier. Your Internet
Service Provider or ISP is just that, a company that provides a connection
to the Internet. Check your Yellow Pages for ISPs in your
area. Once you are set up with an ISP you will be able to dial out
(modem) and connect to the Internet. DSL and Cable Modem users are
connected as soon as you power up your Computer. |
